A CHEMICAL spill at Kensey Foods, Pennygillam Industrial Estate, Launceston, brought business to a halt for many offices, workshops and factories on the estate on Wednesday, August 28, but normality resumed soon after the loss of a trading day, writes Natalie Venning.
Many lost the morning due to police road closures, informing staff not to come in until the afternoon. However, many were already at work when the spill was discovered at around 6am.
The substance involved in the chemical spill was paracetic acid that reacted with another alkali stored nearby and produced a cloud of chlorine gas.
Fire crews, with 41 members, from Launceston, Callington, St Austell and Liskeard attended, along with a decontamination unit from Saltash and the Environment Agency for precaution.
