WORK to save Bude's historic tidal swimming pool has been going on behind the scenes over winter.

The Friends of Bude Sea Pool (FoBSP) have some very exciting successes to report — but also an urgent appeal for more assistance. The pool is due to open again in April and an enormous amount needs to be achieved in just a few months to make sure that it does.

Fundraising has been extremely successful thanks to the efforts of FoBSP members, businesses in Bude and supporters across the country. The fashion show at the end of 2011 raised around £2,000; congratulations went to all involved.

Countless individuals have contributed towards FoBSP funds, asking for donations at Christmas time instead of presents. Bude-born Trevor Thomas Bate was remember by his family and friends with bequests to help to save the sea pool.

More business sponsors have also come on board for the 2012 season, with pledges from a number of establishments throughout the area.

The FoBSP's efforts to secure grant funding have also met with success. £6,250 has been generously contributed by the 'NatWest Community Force' scheme, which is earmarked to buy equipment and meet some of the staff budget for this summer. Sea pool supporters made that grant happen by voting online – so should give themselves a pat on the back.
