AROUND 15 climbers took to the branches of one very large beech tree on Ridgegrove Lane, Launceston, on Saturday to honour a friend with terminal cancer.

Anthony Maunder, a local tree surgeon, saw pictures online of lots of climbers in a single tree.

He wanted to get friends together and do it for fun, but he organised the event in honour of friend and colleague Sarah Glanville-Toho, who has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.

Each participant made a donation to join in the climb, which has been put into a bank account for Sarah's 11-year-old son, Sam. The collection box was made to look like the creeper character from Minecraft, the game which Sam loves. Climber Richard Ede also presented him with a token for rock climbing.
