A SMALL shop in Belle Vue Lane, Bude, usually attracts attention for its wide range of wool and woollen goods and attractive window displays — currently, however, Clare’s Little Wool Shop is the centre of attention for quite a different reason, writes Christine Williams.

Shortly after Boris Johnson became Prime Minister on July 24 he was depicted in a mural which appeared overnight on the shop’s wall.

The image of Mr Johnson, which has been attracting a lot of attention, bears the caption: ‘Article 10 Freedom of Speech, Human Rights Act 1989 [sic]’, and is the work of as yet unknown street artist.

Reactions to the work of art on social media were mostly favourable with comments like: “I hope that this becomes as popular as the ‘Bude Tunnel’” and “It puts Bude on the political map”.

It is accompanied by the emblem of The Secret Society of Super Villain Artists, an international collective of street artists founded by Silent Bill from Liverpool.

Rumour has it that in a week or two the piece of wall art will be painted over and disappear as suddenly as it came.
