AS so much effort had been put in to prepare for this year’s Port Isaac Carnival, held on September 10 during the national mourning period of the late Queen Elizabeth II, the decision was taken to go ahead.

The children were all eager to get out and show off their colourful creations, with the usual cups and trophies up for grabs for the best entrants.

As a mark of respect many wore black armbands in light of the recent passing of the country’s monarch. A minute’s silence was also held before the prize giving.

The Port Isaac Carnival Committee added: “We, along with the rest of the country, are deeply saddened by the death of the Queen and would like to thank her for her lifetime of service and humble commitment to duty.”
