COMMITMENT and
enthusiasm for self
improvement and helping others has earned a Launceston learner a nomination for the Learning and Skills Council South West Skills Awards.
Tutors at Enterprise Tamar who deliver Skills for Life training, funded by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) through the European Social Fund (ESF), were extremely
impressed with Andrew Hamley's attitude to improving his employability after being forced to stop work because of mobility problems.
They were even more impressed when having successfully achieved a qualification in IT plus
literacy and numeracy level 2 – equivalent to grade A to C GCSE – he decided he wanted to share his knowledge and volunteered to support 18-24 year-old learners with their literacy and numeracy studies.
On top of that, with his new found self belief,
Andrew also felt able to volunteer as a football coach at his son's primary school, stepping in to help the high achieving team when the previous coach left and no-one else was able to fill the position.
The prestigious LSC awards, run jointly with the National Apprenticeship Service, recognise and celebrate the achievements of apprentices, learners and employers who have excelled in the region. Andrew has been nominated in the
'Achieving Skills for Life' category.
