A STORM is brewing in Launceston as traders and members of the public have retaliated with negative comments from a music concert that was held in the town Square, writes Amelia Chubb.

Keith Baker, owner of Storm nightclub, attended Launceston Town Council meeting on Tuesday, November 15, in hope that he would be able to hold another live music event in the town, ideally on late night shopping (December 9), but the response was far from the one he hoped to receive.

Storm arranged for The Horse Band to perform for the first time in the town on November 12, to raise awareness of the venue and bar, which holds events for all ages.

Mayor, Cllr Rob Tremain commented that a lot of events had been planned for that day.

Paul Loft, chairman of Launceston Chamber of Commerce, was present at the meeting. He said there wasn't any room for a live band and there was little room for any market stalls.

"It is planned a year in advance with a lot of people trying to get into the town," he commented. "It is nothing personal, but it is a premium night — we already have Pirate FM coming down."

Representatives of Storm asked if they could have general permission to have live music in the Square and possibly hold an event on one of the other late night shopping days. They distributed comments to councillors that had been received from members of the public, many of them being positive remarks, but some councillors felt differently.
