A WOMAN was taken to hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning with serious injuries following a one vehicle collision on a road leading into Holsworthy.
Police and air ambulance crews were called to assist and the road was closed as a result. This came on St Peter’s Fair Day when the town was at it’s busiest.
Reports were also received that the air ambulance had found it necessary to land more than 20 miles away due to the heavy fog in the area.
A Devon Air Ambulance spokesperson confirmed: "Devon Air Ambulance was tasked to the incident; however, due to heavy fog in the area, the aircraft was unable to land directly at the scene and instead landed some distance away in line with our operations that ensure the safety of our crew and others.
“Our clinical team were conveyed to the scene in a police vehicle."
Wales Air Ambulance later conveyed the patient to hospital with serious injuries.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services were called to reports of a single-vehicle collision at Anvil Corner, on the A3072 at Holsworthy, at around 10.55pm on Tuesday, July 7.
“A female occupant of the vehicle has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“The road currently remains closed while an investigation continues at the scene.”
