POLICE report of a tent being set alight in a field at Underlane in Launceston.
This follows a recent spate of vandalism to a storage facility on the same land.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police have investigated a report that a tent was deliberately set on fire in a field on Underlane, Launceston. It is believed to have occurred on Monday, April 12, or Tuesday, April 15.”
One of the site’s owners, Rebecca Brewer, said they were ‘devastated’ by the recent vandalism.
She said: “It’s so sad to have to report something so mindlessly destructive when all through lockdown I’ve only witnessed kindness and gained real strength from my local friends neighbours and colleagues in schools.
“Obviously we treasure our field and think Underlane is one of the most beautiful spots we know in the south west. So we are devastated people have done this.
“We’ve had two separate incidents this week where people have set fire to a tent with camping equipment inside, and broken into our store and damaged things; then they returned and damaged our off road vehicle smashing the windscreen and windows, leaving glass everywhere and again breaking into our store, spraying insulation foam over our rugs, chairs, gardening equipment.
“I am hoping people will rally together and report anything they see as suspicious.” Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the police on 101 or email [email protected] quoting crime reference number 029654/21.
