POLICE would like to make residents aware of the following scam which has occurred in Launceston.

A Launceston resident answered his land line phone and heard a recorded female voice state ‘you have had an international transfer of £600 from your bank. To authorise press 1, to stop the transfer press 2.’

At this point he put the phone down. He has checked with his bank and they have confirmed this is a scam. The call was from 07800 25254.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “If you receive a call stating anything similar to this, put the phone down without pressing any buttons. If worried then phone your own bank using the contact details on your statement.”
