AN investigation has been launched after yet another road traffic collision near Holsworthy.

Devon and Cornwall Police have said that a 53-year-old local woman sustained life threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital after the incident while a 19-year-old male was also seriously injured. .

The incident took place just before 4.25pm on Tuesday, July 14 and involved a red Vauxhall Corsa and a blue Vauxhall Astra at Hollacombe between Holsworthy and Brandis Corner with the road closed for a number of hours while police investigated the scene.

It is the latest in an increasing number of serious incidents on the stretch of road, with a recent single-vehicle collision leaving a teenage girl seriously injured.

Prior to that, an investigation was also launched into an incident near to Anvil Corner.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We are investigating a serious road traffic collision on the A3072 on Tuesday, July 14 and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

“Officers were called just before 4.25pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a red Vauxhall Corsa and a blue Vauxhall Astra on the A3072 at Hollacombe, between Holsworthy and Brandis Corner.

“A local woman, age 53, sustained life-threatening injuries. She was airlifted to hospital.

“A 19-year-old local man was also seriously injured and was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

“The next of kin of both casualties have been informed.

“The road was closed while an investigation was carried out at the scene.

“Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed.
