FIRE crews were called into action this weekend after a car became stranded on a road prone to flooding.
The road that leads from Launceston Rugby Club to St Leonard’s Equestrian Centre at Polson is known to flood in heavy rain. The river swelled, burst its banks and left the adjacent road submerged.
Following the swift arrival of Storm Ingrid after Cornwall’s battering by Storm Goretti, the region’s roads took much of the brunt, with roads left strewn with debris and some areas left completely flooded.
With water covering the roads, Launceston Community Fire Station were mobilised on January 24 to carry out a water rescue.
At 9.53am, the crew were called to reports of a vehicle stuck in standing water at Polson.
A spokesperson from the crew said: “With recent weather conditions and heavy rainfall there is a lot of standing water.
“Please don’t attempt to drive through any standing water as you can never be sure what conditions are like underneath.”
