CAMELFORD boss Reg Hambly wants his side to replicate their fine home form on their travels as they prepare for a run of eight away fixtures in their next ten matches, starting at North Cornwall rivals Launceston on Saturday (2.15pm).

The Camels lost six of their opening seven league games, but since then have turned it around to currently sit seventh in the table with nine wins and three draws from their 21 outings.

Hambly’s men were set to visit Penzance on Saturday, but it was one of six of eight SWPL Premier West games called off due to the poor weather.

That also has implications for the Launceston game.

Hambly said: “We were obviously disappointed that the match was off on Saturday, the lads were looking forward to the trip, but we are well up on our fixtures and it has been rescheduled for March now.

“But unfortunately it means that Charlie Hambly and Tom Crowe will now be unavailable for the Launceston match.”

Hambly introduced half a dozen new players over the summer, all from the lower leagues, and he has been delighted with their impact, as well as a Step Six regular.

He said: “We didn’t get off to the greatest of starts, but we’re delighted with the way the lads have knuckled down and new signings Sam Wade, Connor Sturdy, Brooklyn Wilkins, Shae Cardiff and Leo Best have all made a big impression in their first season at this level.

“Dan Metherell returning from injury also made a big difference to us at the back and his partnership with Sam Wade has been another plus point.”

Camelford have just four of their 11 remaining league games at home, and Hambly knows they’ll need to start picking up points on the road.

“We love playing at Trefrew Park on a great surface, and our home form has been very good. Eight of our next ten fixtures are away now (including the League Cup) so we face the challenge of replicating that form on our travels.

“We are in and around the top six now and it would be great to stay up and around there, but we realise teams below have several games in-hand, so that will be very difficult.

“All we can do is continue to play our football and hope the results will come. I don’t think we have had an easy game this year and looking at our run-in, every game will present a big challenge.”

However Camelford will naturally have one eye on their big SWPL League Cup clash at league rivals St Austell on Saturday, February 10.

He said: “The boys have been superb in making it to the quarter-final of the League Cup, knocking out East Division sides Torrington and Newton Abbot. We couldn’t have drawn a much tougher one than St Austell away, but that is another match we can all look forward to.”

But attention is now on Saturday’s trip to Pennygillam.

Hambly concluded: “Paul Hider and Neil Price are doing a great job. After three straight wins they will obviously be fancying themselves and we will need to be at our best to get something from the game.

“I watched them beat Wadebridge 3-1 recently and was really impressed with their work-rate and togetherness.

“It should be a cracking match, both teams play good football, and we will need to defend strongly and take our chances when they come along.”
