EVERY Saturday throughout the year, at 9-10am, many 4-7 year old boys and girls attend Southgate Colts mini soccer club which takes places at Launceston College playing fields.

Nathan Cox, mini's coach, said: "Our club welcomes players of all abilities and levels of experience and I encourage all parents of any potential new members to get in touch and just give it a go and see if your child enjoys it first of all.

"From a coaching perspective, my ethos doesn't entertain 'the importance of winning' at this age and instead solely looks at securing the fundamental football skills as well as developing a love for taking part in the team game.

"Supported by the FA's coaching philosophy, effective youth coaches make the games relevant, appropriate and enjoyable for the players in their care.

"The approach refrains from imposing unrealistic expectations and methods more suited to older and more experienced players.

"At Southgate, as coaches of youth football players, we work hard to understand individual players — the areas in which they require support and the best methods for helping them develop and learn. "In comparison with a coach of senior football, where results are often an indicator of coach effectiveness, youth coaches like myself tend to coach with a development and enjoyment focus."
