KIERAN Wint, aged 17 from Bude, and Matthew Ryall, just 11 years old from Launceston, have been playing representative pool for the Cornwall Youth Pool Team this season which culminated in the team making the National Intercounty Finals for the first time in 20 years.

The finals were held in Great Yarmouth and the team acquitted themselves admirably pushing one of the pre tournament favourites Warwickshire all the way and were tied at 21-21, only to lose the match as their opponents big match experience showed to clinch it 23-21.

In their second match they were drawn against the reigning champions of the past two years Leicestershire. Again another close match ending in a 23-19 loss against a side containing England Youth Internationals.

An amazing weekend that has been a steep learning curve for the whole team and will stand them in good stead as they begin the new season in April, both players having been retained in the squad for the coming year.
