Upper Tamar Lake Sailing Club — Report

Am Spare Five Fun Race

SEVEN boats set off towards West Mark on a blustery day with winds gusting 5-6 from the West to South West.

There were four Toppers gaily bucketing along with Jane Chadney’s 4.7 in the mix, and then the two Bosun’s following not far behind.

It was at the rounding of West Mark that Vicky and John Duncalf decided that the increased strength of the gusty weather was too much and decided to return to quieter waters.

Meanwhile, Jane Anderson’s Topper, followed by Jane Chadney and Nathan Pollard in his Topper, led the pack into Inlet and then on to Pinky Mark. The strong winds brought the fleet back down the lake to Dam Red Mark in a flash, and for Jane Chadney the lap was finished in only 11 minutes as she led everyone onto the second lap.

The status quo remained for the second lap, and on the third lap at Inlet, Jane Anderson capsized, closely followed by Jane Chadney in a series of vicious gusts, which prompted assistance from the instructor. Both sailors then retired.

Nathan then took the lead, and having rounded Dam Red, he had a wobble at Home One. Dad

Brian in his Bosun was able to close the gap between them.

Once Nathan had sorted himself out, he completed the lap without further incident and finished first, followed by Brian and crew John Dabs, and then Elliot Pomeroy.

1. N Pollard (Topper); 2. B Pollard (Bosun); 3. Elliot Pomeroy.

Retired: Vicki and John Duncalf, Jane Chadney and Jane Anderson.

Many thanks were expressed to John Weller for carrying out the role of Officer of the Day.
