WITH the cross-over of summer and winter sports in full swing, there’s plenty to get your teeth into in this week’s Post Series sports section.

Whether you like rugby, cricket, football, boxing or athletics, there’s something for everyone.

The opening day of the rugby union season took place on Saturday.

We have a report from the Cornish All Blacks’ Cornish derby at Camborne in the new Regional One South West plus reaction from a disappointed joint head coach Ian Goldsmith to the defeat, while Bude – effectively promoted having been placed in the new Counties One Western West – were in action at home to Kingsbridge. Again there’s a report inside of a close contest.

Both Bude and Launceston’s second teams were in action in the new Counties Cornwall Three. There are reports from both with Launceston earning a comfortable victory on home soil over their Camborne counterparts.

Football wise there’s the usual match reports from the South West Peninsula League including on Bude Town, Camelford, Holsworthy and Launceston, as well as round-ups by Dave Potham on the St Piran League and East Cornwall Premier League.

Saturday saw the penultimate weekend of the regular Cornwall Cricket League season but with poor weather around, only a handful of games even started.

Inside is a round-up of the action that did take place as well as a preview looking ahead to the final day with plenty to play for right across the divisions.

We hear from Werrington skipper Nick Lawson as the Ladycross club prepare for a final day showdown at Redruth as they battle for survival with Callington and Truro.

There’s also reaction from both camps the local derby between Bude and Holsworthy which the hosts edged to go a long way towards survival.

Launceston Road Runners hosted their annual Treggy 7 road race on Sunday. Inside are pictures and a report from another well attended event, while in boxing, we hear all about Altarnun’s Sam Smith professional boxing debut in Torquay.
