A NEW venue in Lifton was used for the first time by Launceston and North Cornwall Motor Club at the Northgate Sporting Car Trial last month.
The event was a round of the Association of South West Motor Club’s regional championship.
While the entry was relatively low, the quality was high and included Roland Uglow from Delabole, who is the current MSA British champion and former British champion Duncan Stephens from Gunnislake.
On a mixture of grass and woodland, the 24 hills called for perfect judgement of pace in slippery conditions.
In a very closely fought contest, the eventual winner was Jerome Fack from Wadebridge, who managed to beat Uglow by just one point, with Stephens a further four points adrift after running out of fuel on the last hill. The blue class was won by Alan Ede from Callington.
The competitors were very pleased with the new course.
The club is hoping to run a taster event on Sunday, August 12 with the aim of providing prospective newcomers with an opportunity to experience motorsport even if they do not currently have a suitable mud-plugging car.
Further information on the activities of the club can be found on the website www.lncmc.co.uk and the next sporting trial will be held at Marshgate on Sunday, September 16 and is part of the British Championship.
