Thursday, June 25, saw the Trefloyne seniors arrive at the verdant paradise that is Priskilly Forest Golf Club. With the weather fair, if a little steamy, it was set to be a fair test of golf.

Leading off was Jack Zeraschi, paired with Graham Willcocks, playing stand-in captain Peter Billett and Graham Davies. After taking an early three-hole lead, this looked like a runaway win for the Trefloyne pair, but back to back wins by Peter and Graham brought the deficit back to one after eight holes. This was, however, extended to two up after the Priskilly pair conceded the ninth. Three wins in a row on the 12th, 13th and 14th, gave the Trefloyne pair a 5 and 4 win.

Mike Allen was paired with John Drury, to play Malcolm Walters and Bill Watson. Mike and John raced into a three-hole lead, before losing the fourth. However, they then won the next two holes to lead by four after nine holes. A win on the 11th gave the home pair some hope, but it was dashed when the Trefloyne pair won the 12th and 13th. A win on the 14th gave some consolation, but Mike and John won the 15th to win 5 and 3.

In the next game, Pat Casement was with regular partner Keith Warmington, to play Cary Richards and Phil Smith. The home pair won the first, but a birdie two on the next hole from Pat, levelled the game. The Trefloyne pair then proceeded to win four of the next six holes to take a four-hole lead onto the final circuit. Wins on the next two holes extended the advantage to six, but a pair of wins on holes 12 and 13, reduced the lead to four with five to play. Pat and Keith ended any further hope of a revival by winning the next hole to win 5 and 4.

Keith Hubbard was joined by Trevor Lewis in their game with Ted Rogers and Ron Jeffrey. This seems to have been a fairly even game, with the Trefloyne pair eventually winning 2 and 1.

Bob Burks and Bob Forrest teamed up to play Randel Griffith and Brian Jones. The Priskilly pair had the best of this match for most of the round, being five up with five to play. However, the Trefloyne pair now started to get their act together, winning the next four holes to be one down with one to play. Unfortunately, their fightback was in vain, as a half was the best they could do on the last, so losing by one hole.

Next to play were Dennis Holloway, with Graham Harrison, against Mick Hancock and Geoff Broad. In a close front nine, the Priskilly pair held a narrow one hole lead. They extended the lead by winning the 11th and 12th, to go three up. Wins on 13 and 14 by Dennis and Graham, brought the score back to one down again, but a loss on the 15th, meant halves on the next two holes gave Priskilly a 2 and 1 win.

The final match featured the Jones boys, Derek and Darrell, against John Castle and Huw Edwards. The first three holes were halved, before Derek and Darrell won the next three. Not to be outdone, the Priskilly pair won the eighth and ninth to reduce the lead to one going onto the final circuit. The next four holes were shared, but the Trefloyne pair ended any resistance by winning the next three, to win 4 and 2.

Final score: Priskilly 2 Trefloyne 5.
