ABERGAVENNY Town FC have ended a high octane season unbeaten, unbowed, and wearing the Gwent County championship crown after a thunderous rout of Blaenavon Blues.
Three minutes in, Town got off to a flying start when Nathan Davies nipped in to beat Blues keeper Rowlands, but it was only in the second half that the game truly ignited in a manner worthy of Town's amazing season.
Town were awarded a penalty by referee Simon Griffiths who was officiating in his last match, and Dean Morgan stepped up with a confident spot kick which left Rowlands with no chance.
Moments later Jamie Summers headed in from a set piece, and when Town were awarded another penalty, Dean Morgan again converted, to open the flood gates and get the party started.
Morgan then showed his ability in open play, rounding Rowlands and netting for number five, to score a well- deserved hat-trick. Ben Bannon's eye for goal and thumping drive saw Town hit the half dozen.
The final whistle blew, Town were crowned champions, and the trophy was handed to them by Councillor John Prosser.
A club spokesman told the Chronicle, "To remain unbeaten for all season and gain promotion, especially in our inaugural year is a fantastic achievement, and Stephen Morgan and his coaching staff deserve huge credit for what they have achieved. We truly are a home-grown side with 13 of the 16-strong squad which featured against Blaenavon having NP7 addresses and, together with the success of the team we have seen the town of Abergavenny respond to this, with support for the club growing tremendously.
"In our campaign of 30 games we have won 29 games, drawn one and have scored 139 goals, conceding only 22. We now look forward to seeing the name of Abergavenny featuring in the Welsh League fixture lists once more, and hopefully, continued success."
