Members of Launceston Tennis Club have had a very enjoyable 2019.

From the five-year-olds who attend the summer ‘pay and play’ sessions on Mondays, through to the 70-plus-year-olds who throw themselves around the court to retrieve every ball during club sessions, everyone can’t get enough.

Apart from those who play competitively in the Cornwall League, there have been sessions for beginners on Thursday evenings throughout the year, club tournaments both competitive and fun, a skiing trip to Finland, friendly matches with local clubs and club outings to play tennis beside the sea. There have also been many coaching sessions with James Brobin.

The club’s annual Finals Day was held in September at the Launceston College Playing Fields, but heavy rain mean the ladies singles, mixed doubles and ladies plate finals are still to be completed.

The finals day results so far are:

Men’s Singles — Winner: Henry Cornish; Runner-up: Graham Worth; Junior Singles — Winner: Charlotte Halls; Runner-up: Matthew Ryall; Men’s Plate — Winner: Adrian Riddick; Runner-up: Hubert Meisse; Men’s Doubles — Winners: Henry Cornish and Barry Frayn; Runners-up: Graham Worth and Tim Hambly; Ladies Doubles — Winners: Nicole Warring and Hayley Frayn; Runners-up: Ruth Cornish and Ann Pywell.
