Upper Tamar Lake Sailing Club race report – Sunday, July 12
COMMODORE ONE
ALL three boats got off to a great start in the brisk easterly winds.
Nathan Pollard (Aero 5) took the lead at the first mark followed by Brian Pollard and Tash Routley, along with Adam Hilton and Liam Routley in the two Bosuns.
By the end of the first lap, Nathan had extended his lead with Pollard/Routley second and the other Bosun, with its smaller mainsail, bringing up the rear.
With powerful gusts descending upon everyone, the lap times for the Aero were roughly 13 minutes.
Brian and Tash had a gallant sail and came in second; the other Bosun had a few difficulties rounding Inlet buoy which delayed it.
Results: 1) Nathan Pollard (Aero 5); 2) Brian Pollard and Tash Routley (Bosun); 3) Adam Hilton and Liam Routley (Bosun).
PURSUIT FOUR
Vicki Duncalf in her Topper set off first with Bob Sampson (Laser 4.7) seven minutes later.
Brian Pollard and Tash Routley (Bosun) started two minutes after that, and last speedy Nathan Pollard (Aero 5), fifteen minutes after the Topper with quite a chase to finish in front.
After lap one, Vicki was well ahead of Bob and managing the brisk winds very ably.
By the end of lap two, however, the Laser was only a few metres behind. The Bosun was keeping a steady pace and Nathan was streaking across the water, determined to catch up.
By the middle of lap three, Bob had overtaken Vicki, while Nathan headed the Bosun and the Topper but at the finish Bob was in front.
Results: 1) Bob Sampson (Laser 4.7); 2) Nathan Pollard (Aero 5); 3) Vicki Duncalf (Topper); 4) Brian Pollard and Tash Routley (Bosun).
Many thanks was given to Jane Anderson for running the races.
