AS MANY people's enthusiasm for January resolutions starts to wane, the Launceston Road Runners have continued to lace up their trainers and make great strides in races across Cornwall, no matter how ‘Cornish’ the weather is!

This month has started well with 14 club members taking part in the always popular Newquay 10K on the first day of the month.

Despite a cheeky uphill finish, there were plenty of personal best results in the second race of the Cornish Grand Prix race series with the results as follows:

Andy Corbett – 41:51; David Thomson – 42:03; Eddie Thomson - 43:40, Lewis Halliday - 45:02, Michaela Barron - 48:56, Matt Pickard - 49:38, Ian Grimes - 55:06, Linda Pickard - 55:50, Angela Brinicombe – 56:58, Emma James – 1:00:42, Elaine Hill - 1:04:55, Gabby Lyons - 1:04:55, Lorraine Hawkins – 1:06:35 and Vin Marshall – 1:10:41.

Angela came first in the F65-69 category while David and Michaela came second in their respective age categories which were M55-59 and F35-39.

The following Saturday – February 7 – saw the Cardinham Marathon and Half Marathon take place, with Canicross races also held for both distances.

In the full marathon, David Thomson finished with a time of four hours, 49 minutes and 28 seconds, coming eighth overall and first in his age category.

In the half marathon, Nick Smith finished with a time of 2:23:45 and Peter McAughey was close behind in 2:29:25.

In the Canicross half, Jo Northey and her dog Maggie finished third overall with a time of 2:46:04.

Launceston Road Runners meet for a social run every Tuesday evening at 6.45, with three, five, six and seven-mile running groups, and every Thursday at 6.20pm for a variety of training sessions, both at Firebrand Brewery in Pennygillam Industrial Estate.

The 2026 ‘Couch to 5K’ group is also up and running for anyone who wants to start running and improve their fitness in a friendly, yet social environment.
