A HANDFUL of local runners completed the penultimate race of the 2026 Cornish Grand Prix race series – the Marazion 10K – on Sunday, September 27.
Over 500 runners headed to the famous West Cornwall village just outside of Penzance, and a rapid course allowed for winner Sam Farmer to cross the finishing line in just 34 minutes and 23 seconds, runners enjoyed themselves.
Seven members of Launceston Road Runners made the long trip, all finishing well inside an hour.
Leading the way was Andy Corbett in 43 minutes and 30 seconds which was good enough for eighth in the M40-44 section, while Michaela Barron was next best in a time of 48:47. She was fourth in the F35-39 age group.
However, it was veterans Stuart Armstrong and Ian Grimes that were able to secure thirds.
Armstrong’s 52:46 saw him beat Peter Allen by over a minute in the M65-69 section, while Grimes’ 56:52 saw him edge out Tamar Trotters’ Barry Olver by just four seconds to sneak third in the M70-74 age category.
The others to finish were Matt Pickard (51:43), Nicholas Smith (52:57) and Raoul Grantham (53:56).
Although there were no Bude runners present, two ladies from Camelford Up and Running did compete.
Holly Hutchins crossed in 1:01:08 with Emma Deanes finishing five and a half minutes later.
A fortnight earlier, members from Launceston Road Runners completed the Truro Half Marathon in the county capital.
Michaela Barron’s 1:54:25 secured her third in the F35-39 age-group, while the other Launceston lady to enter was Lisa Pascoe (2:36:09).
The Launceston men to compete were David Thomson (1:41:57), Andy Corbett (1:51:12), Lewis Halliday (1:59:06), Matt Pickard (2:02:59) and Stuart Armstrong (2:05:35), the latter’s time good enough to once again edge out Peter Allen, this time to take the age group victory.
Thomson finished fourth in the M60-64 section and was just 20 seconds adrift of third.
