BUDE’S problems on their travels continued last Saturday as they were comfortably beaten at Honiton.

Bude won just once on the road last term as they were relegated from the Western Counties (West) League and their defeat in East Devon made it back-to-back defeats on their travels in the Cornwall and Devon League.

Honiton went into the game buoyed by a 64-0 thrashing at newly-promoted Wessex and found themselves 14-6 up at half-time with Ollie Denford slotting over two penalties for Bude.

In the end, the home side’s superior pace proved decisive with full-back Ben Webber the main architect.

Honiton’s try scorers were Webber, flanker Jack Proctor and backs Ollie Hyland and Ben Kidson.

Ollie Cave was also good with the boot, kicking three penalties to go alongside the same amount of conversions.

The North Cornwall side did manage to score a solitary try through centre Shaun Andrew.

Bude will be glad to be back at Bencoolen Meadow this Saturday when they welcome high-flying Lanner.

The Cornish side have picked up two wins from their first three games and will make the long trip up the A30 and A39 in confident mood after putting 109 points past struggling Wessex last weekend.

However, they did lose 25-6 at Wellington in their only away fixture so far, meaning Bude will be confident of earning the points.
