REUBEN Edwards has been recalled to the Cornish All Blacks side for tomorrow’s huge clash at Newbury Blues.

Edwards’ inclusion at full-back in place of the injured Tom Sandercock is the only change from last weekend’s agonising 43-42 defeat at home to high-flying Maidenhead, which saw a last minute conversion attempt from Glenn Coles go just wide.

Edwards himself was missing last weekend due to cuts suffered on the 4G pitch at Ivybridge a fortnight earlier, but has recovered to take his place in the starting 15.

After three heavy defeats against Exeter University, Exmouth and Ivybridge, it was a vastly improved performance from the Blacks, who picked up two losing bonus points for their efforts.

Having already played four of the current top five, the Cornishmen know that games against the likes of fellow promoted club Newbury will be significant as to whether they can maintain their Step Five status come April.

Newbury eased to the South West One (East) title last term and have just the one win to their name so far, but, crucially, have competed well in all their matches, including going down to a last minute drop goal at Ivybridge on Saturday.

Their home record so far has seen them beat Exmouth 25-15 and lose 24-20 to Drybrook.

At present they are on eight points from five games, so a bonus-point Launceston win, without conceding one themselves, will see them move level on points with a game in-hand.

Launceston will be backed by members of the second team who are going up to Berkshire to support.
