Launceston Rugby Club interclub friendly (Boxing Day)
Whites 43
Blacks 27
THERE was an exciting ‘interclub’ game played at Launceston Rugby Club on Boxing Day with the White team edging out the Black team 43-27.
As ever, a good crowd converged on Polson Bridge to see the Black team, primarily made up of second teamers and a few ex-members making a rare appearance, take on the Whites who were mainly youngsters with a few extras to make up the numbers.
The Blacks took an early 10-0 advantage, but were caught up and at half-time the younger side led 12-10.
In the second-half the Whites scored a number of tries to power to a 43-27 win.
A club spokesman said: “It was a really good game played in good spirit and also showed what potential we have with some of the younger players at the club.
“The game was very enjoyable for all and we’d like to thank the large crowd who turned out to see the game, all who arranged it and also to the kitchen and bar staff for their work on the day.”
There’s a return to competitive league rugby for Launceston on Saturday with the first team, second team and Colts team all scheduled for action.
Jimmy Tucker’s first team head to Ivybridge desperately looking for their first away victory of the season in their battle to avoid relegation.
Back in September, the Bridgers edged out the All Blacks 29-15 at Polson Bridge and are enjoying an excellent season following promotion last term having won ten and lost just four of their 14 National League Three South West encounters.
However All Blacks fans will hope that a three-week break and the fact that it’s a local derby will see them upset the form book and pull off a memorable victory to reduce the 11-point gap to Lydney who sit in the final place of safety in the league table.
However seven of their last 12 fixtures are away from home and are sure to need to pick up a couple of victories away from Polson?Bridge to stand any chance of survival.
While the first team return to action, the second team will be given a stern test by their St Austell counterparts at Tregorrick Park in the Duchy League.
The Colts are also on the road, as they travel down to Camborne which will sure to be an excellent advert for youth rugby in Cornwall.
