DESPITE having their playing squad ravaged by cricket, weddings and injuries, plus retirements, the Ford (as they always do) honoured this league fixture at Helston.

Camelford made the 120-mile round trip to Helston with only 13 players; this included only one recognised back.

By borrowing a few Helston vets Camelford had to concede a ‘home win’ to Helston, but gave them a friendly game anyway and as one would expect, lost easily by 48 points to nil.

The visitors’, already ravaged by injury, luck took a cruel twist, when after only 48 seconds, Matthew Etherington dislocated his knee leading to a 40-minute delay as the ambulance treated him.

On the restart Helston were easily able to get the better of Camelford and played some excellent running rugby.

They ran in eight tries, five of which were converted, to please a large home crowd.

While the score in the friendly had no relevance, Camelford must hope that they can get a number of players back as quickly as possible, both from injury and other activities to avoid a long winter.
