A David versus Goliath clash will be taking place on Wednesday, March 4 as Camelford prepare to take on Mousehole in the semi-final of the Cornwall Senior Cup at Newquay’s Mount Wise ground.
The North Cornwall side soared into the last four of the competition with a remarkable extra-time victory over Western League side Newquay at the start of January.
Southern League side Mousehole - who, like Camelford have yet to win the Senior Cup - secured a comfortable win over St Blazey to book their place in the semi-finals.
Going into the game as underdogs, Camels boss Bobby Hopkinson is hoping that his side can produce the same level of performance that was on display during their win over Newquay.
He said: “Beating Newquay has given our team even more belief going into the semi-finals. I don’t think anything changes from our point of view. We have belief in our identity, what we’re trying to bring to Camelford and with the style of football we want to play. I’m hoping that we can showcase that against higher opposition.
“I have no doubt that my players are capable of achieving those big performances, it’s just whether it comes together on the night like it did against Newquay. If the lads are a shadow of anything they produced on that night at Newquay, we’ve got every chance.
“We’ve got a huge young squad and some of those young lads might feel the pressure, but it’s about getting the best out of them and making them feel relaxed to help them produce performances of the higher standard that is required.
“On the other hand, those young lads are fearless, so it’s a case of giving them that belief and that repetition of doing what we have been doing during the season. We need to respect how good Mousehole are and the players they have got.”
“You only have to look at how high a team like Mousehole or Falmouth Town recognise this competition and clubs of that caliber. It could swing both ways, but hopefully we can turn around and produce the performance that we did against Newquay.”
