BUDE player/coach Angus Hodges admits their lack of recent games have ‘got its positives and negatives’ following their second postponement in three weeks.

The North Cornwall side were scheduled to travel to Topsham on Saturday in the Cornwall/Devon League, but were informed on Friday night that the pitch at the Bonfire Field was waterlogged.

Hodges said: “It’s been pretty disjointed in the last few weeks but at least it’s coming all at once. We’ve also had a few injuries floating around. On one hand it helps us re-energise and recover, but then we’re not going to progress without getting games, so it’s got its positives and negatives.”

Although the vast majority of clubs have the weekend off, Bude are in action this weekend when they head to struggling South Molton (2.30pm) in a rearranged fixture.

The two clubs were scheduled to meet on November 9, but was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The North Devon outfit have recently signed three Fijians to bolster their bid for survival, and it had an immediate impact on Saturday as they won 3-0 at home to mid-table Lanner.

However they are bottom of the standings thanks to Tavistock’s first win of the season.

Despite that, Hodges is wary, especially as they are yet to win in three attempts on the road this term.

He said: “Bringing in those Fijians will suit their playing style quite well. They’re a niggly, brutal side who like to run ball and upset teams.

“We’ve got to make sure we don’t get involved in that too much and play our rugby but that maybe difficult with the lack of games we’ve had recently.

“But hopefully we can go there with a relatively strong squad and pick up a positive result.”

Hodges is still unable to pick himself as he makes his way back from a cheekbone injury suffered at Lanner back in September.

He said: “It’s getting there slowly. It’s frustrating as I feel like I could play, but any knock to it could mean another operation. Hopefully I’ll be back in a month or so.”
