BUDE are one of several clubs eyeing up promotion from Counties Two Cornwall this season and the Seasiders face an acid test of their credentials tomorrow when they make the long trip to Helston.

The North Cornwall side pummelled St Austell Seconds 64-5 last week at Bencoolen Meadow, however head to a Blues side who did the league double over them last season as well as beating Bude in the Cornwall Clubs Cup final in May.

Helston finished as runners-up last term and started with a comfortable 39-13 success at Wadebridge Camels Seconds on Saturday, but both sides know these are the games which will decide if they can take the single promotion slot available.

Bude’s new head coach Steve Harris unsurprisingly names the same starting line-up as last weekend, although there is one change to the bench as Lewis Jones comes in for the unavailable Ben Tharme.

Harris told the Post: “It was a good start to the season last Saturday, especially to get a bonus-point which is always the goal.

“I was pleased with what we’ve been working on in pre-season was put into action, and although everybody was buzzing afterwards, we know there’s still so much more room to grow.”

He continued: “I’m really looking forward to tomorrow, it should give us a real indication of what level we’re at. So a win on the road at Helston would be a massive step in the right direction.”

Bude Seconds also make their seasonal bow tomorrow in Counties Three Cornwall as they host their Penzance & Newlyn counterparts at Bencoolen Meadow. The Seasiders conceded last weekend’s trip to Camborne School of Mines.
