SATURDAY afternoon’s eagerly-anticipated National Two South derby between Taunton Titans and Cornish All Blacks was postponed after the pitch at Hyde Park was deemed unplayable by both teams and the officials following a heavy downpour.

Following a morning inspection the game was set to go ahead but with a slightly later 3.00pm kick off time, however, once the weather took a turn for the day, torrential rain left puddles on the pitch.

Taunton Titans team manager Keith Brooking said that it was the ‘sensible decision’ with the safety of players in mind.

Again, luckily for the All Blacks, Chinnor and Redingensians both lost, so the two fixtures in-hand they now have will hopefully allow them to close the gap up a bit.

This weekend, weather permitting, the Cornish All Blacks get their campaign back underway with a home fixture against Worthing Raiders, who are themselves sitting fairly low in National Two South. Kick off at Polson Bridge is 2.30pm.

Elsewhere, in the Cornwall and Devon League, league leaders Bude face a tough trip to fourth place Falmouth, while in Cornwall Two, Camelford get their season back underway with an away fixture against St Just.

The Cornish All Blacks development XV also hope to play their first game of the new year away to Bodmin.

The Launceston side currently sit top of the Duchy League and will hope to cement their position with a win.
