PORT Isaac Rowing Club finished its special 25th anniversary with its annual gig push event on Tuesday, December 27.
The push was very well attended, with cheques presented before the push to their two nominated charities this year, Cornwall Wildlife Trust and St Petroc’s Society.
The club served mulled wine and bacon rolls outside the RNLI Station at 11am, before starting the push, up to the Cornish Arms at Pendoggett, and back to Port Isaac, collecting funds for the charities along the way.
This event marks the first fundraiser towards their new nominated charities for 2017, Shires Holt Horse Sanctuary and The Ideas Partnership. The club all enjoyed a well-earned pizza at the end of the afternoon, courtesy of ’The Angry Anchovy’ in Port Isaac.
Port Isaac Rowing Club is a small community club with a big heart and always gives a warm welcome to new members.
With their gigs, Corsair, Roscarrock and Unity, club members participate in everything from the World Gig Championships to local regattas to the Great London River Race with great gusto and enthusiasm. They row out from Port Isaac whenever possible, especially on a sunny summer’s evening or Sunday morning.
Every year, since 2010, the club has raised thousands of pounds for charity and the members aim to donate around £1,000 per year to their chosen charities.
In the last few years this has totalled around £8,000, helping the likes of Shelterbox, Precious Lives, Cornwall Leukaemia Trust, Active8, Riding for the Disabled (North Cornwall), Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), Merlin Appeal (for MS sufferers in Cornwall), Children’s Hospice South West and the RNLI.
The club extended thanks to all its friends and sponsors who have supported the club throughout this special 25th anniversary year.
