Upper Tamar Lake Sailing Club race

report — April 5

Tamar 1

THE gentlest of breezes and the bluest of skies attracted 19 boats onto the water.

With several boats jumping the start it was James Pollard who led the pack to the first buoy and kept his lead for the rest of the race.

He was chased by Nicky Buckett and Steve Axford's Lasers and Adam Hilton's Solo but these three disqualified themselves by Leaving Far buoy to port not to starboard.

The second group was led by Sue Murray in her Laser 4.7 with the two Streakers of Roger Heasman and Robin Spiller, Adeney Pooler's Graduate and Stuart mealing's Laser all following.

Then came a third bunch with Jane Anderson battling her way boldly through the fleet, John Buckett in the Otter, Linda Spiller in her Comet and Nathan Pollard leading the Toppers, John Savage and John Dabbs.

The second lap saw the wind drop away and then come back in quite another direction and the third increased the number of retirees; Steve Axford lassoing Jane Anderson with his mainsheet and Simon Veale despondent at not even the spinnaker getting the Bosun going.

The newly revised handicaps gave Nathan Pollard's Topper first place despite finishing twelve minutes behind his brother.
