NORTH?Hill A moved up to second in Division One of the North Cornwall Table Tennis League last Thursday night as they won 8-2 at Helland B.

Although they were missing Shirley Luckhurst; Bob Thompson and Martin Hynes both won all three of their outings although Hynes had to see off a stirring comeback from David Hughes to prevail in the final game.

Adrian Davis also played well in beating Hughes and David Maclennan, although he was comfortably defeated by Rickwood, who also won the doubles with Maclennan in a decider.

With the rest of the division not playing, the focus was on the second-tier.

On Wednesday night, Crackington B picked up an excellent 8-2 victory at Launceston.

Zach Parker was the star of the show for the visitors in winning all three encounters while Keiron Chatterjea and Robin Evans also enjoyed productive evenings.

For the home side, Stephen Parsons ground out two victories — the first of which saw him come from two games down to defeat Chatterjea before winning from 2-1 down against Evans.

The unluckiest player on the night was Karen Horrell who pushed Evans and Chatterjea to five sets.

On Thursday night, Whitstone Wanderers won 6-4 at North Hill?B, who again got to call on the services of 13-year-old Angharad Beman.

The talented youngster enjoyed a perfect evening, including inflicting a second defeat of the season on Barry Stearman.

Although she won the doubles as well, Stearman, Doug Genini and Rob Woodhouse won the rest of their outings.

Budehaven B are now 23 points clear at the top after winning 10-0 at Bridgerule A last Friday.

Alan Quilter was unlucky not to win more than just one game as he pushed Ashley Taylor, David Sillifant and Owen Salisbury very close although the doubles went the distance.

In Division?Three, the top two of Crackington C and Budehaven C continued their respective challenges for promotion.

Leaders Crackington won 4-1 at home to Budehaven F with Trevor Dean winning two and James Ellis one.

Ezra Jukes picked up Budehaven’s point as to move off the bottom of the table at the expense of North Hill C.

North Hill were thrashed 5-0 by Budehaven E as Tim Orchard and Robin Worden ensured that they’ve dropped just two games all season from their five matches.
