THE violent winds forecast never quite turned up but there was no shortage of puff and plenty of Tamar Lake speciality gusts.
Officer of the day, Simon Veal, responded with a simple course — up to Far and back via West White.
James Pollard made a very good start closely followed by Jane Anderson with Steve Axford making up ground.
Robin Spiller had his fine fourth place taken from him by a capsize. Following him were Adam Hilton's Solo and the two Bosuns of Nicky and John Buckett and Toby Tobias with John Dabbs. Adam went the wrong side of Home 1 and had to go back.
Toby got ahead of Nicky and pulled away. Then came a gang of Toppers led, for a change, by Eliot Pomeroy. On the final lap Steve and James were still scrapping at the front but the cruel handicap took Steve's big sail Laser back to eighth!
