BUDE were one of 42 bridge clubs throughout the country that took part in the EBU Autumn Simultaneous pairs event on Tuesday, October 3.

There was a remarkable performance from the Bude duo of Chris Nichols and Jane Koldewey who came 25th out of 666 pairs, while Bob and Ann Bennett were a creditable 89th.

In other club news, congratulations are in order for Noreen Heslop, who has been promoted by the EBU (English Bridge Union) to ‘District Master’, while Alan Biggs and Rob Mabley were part of the Cornwall B team, which beat Wiltshire 16-4 on Saturday, October 7, before they won the coveted Clifton Trophy at Bude Bridge Club on October 17.

Multiple evening winners during the month were Bob and Ann Bennett, Steve Clifton, who won with both David Clarke and Jane Koldewey, while Koldewey also won with Chris Nichols.

Other evening winners during the month were Neil and Sarah Trenaman, Mary Hopgood and Noreen Heslop and Alan Biggs and Rob Mabley.

The only multiple winners on Wednesday afternoons were Deb Delvalle and Geoff Scutt. Other winning pairs were Sarah Trenaman and John Hilder and Alan Merchant-White and Ian Curtis.
