Narberth's last league game of the season provided a positive result against Llanharan, who had obtained safety from relegation in mid-week with a surprise victory over Cardiff Met, which took them clear of the drop to Division One.

Therefore, pride rather than points provided the impetus for the game, with both teams able to enjoy the final league game of the season.

Because of injury, Narberth again fielded Morgan Griffiths at centre and Liam Hitchens on the wing, with veteran Justin Hughes at tight-head in the scrum.

In the early exchanges, both teams were strong in defence, although a strong wind which was at Narberth's backs did create problems occasionally.

The first score came when the Otters were penalised for offside inside the Dairymen's 22 and the Llanharan fly-half, Harrison Evans, had no difficulty in putting three points on the board despite kicking into the prevailing wind.

A few minutes later, Steve Martin scored an excellent try for the Otters. Llanharan had made ground to near the halfway line and won their scrum Then from the scrum, they kicked into Narberth's half. The ball was safely fielded by Stuart Worrall who forged forward and when tackled, Narberth won the ruck. The ball was quickly fed out to Steve Martin, playing at inside centre, and with some elusive running, sprinted clear of the Llanharan defence to touch down far out. Ianto Griffiths did well to convert and put Narberth 7-3 ahead.

In the scrums, unlike the previous week, the Narberth pack held firm, with Justin Hughes playing an important role with his mastery of the dark arts and young Ollie Evans enjoying the better of the exchanges at loose-head. The lineout was also working effectively, where Alex Jenkins was in control.

This gave Narberth several opportunities to test Llanharan's defence, but there was no more scoring in the half as the home side managed to keep the Otters at bay

With Llanharan kicking off in the second half, it enabled Narberth to receive the ball on their 22, from where Nick Gale, playing at fullback, made a strong run into the home half. Unfortunately, the movement broke down when he passed the ball out, only for it to b fumbled and end up in touch.

A few minutes later, another Narberth attack saw some strong running by centre Morgan Griffiths who made much ground before feeding wing Liam Hitchins, who sprinted down the touchline some 20 metres before being brought down. At the ruck, Narberth were judged to have drifted offside, enabling Llanharan to clear their line.

Soon after, the Otters were penalised in their half and Harrison Evans kicked an easy penalty bringing the score back to 7-6.

Llanharan then changed their front row, having been second best to Narberth in that department.

Thirteen minutes into the half, Narberth moved further ahead when Morgan Griffiths touched down for a try. Having started the movement with a scything run from within his own half, he then fed Liam Hitchens in midfield and had the foresight to move outside him to receive the return pass and outpace the defence to score wide out. Again Ianto Griffiths converted a difficult kick into the prevailing wind.

The Narberth coaches then made a tactical switch in the threes, taking off wing Lawrence Headlam, with Nico Setaro coming off the bench. He moved to fly-half, with Ianto Griffiths moving to fullback and Nick Gale moving to the wing. In the pack, Nio Aioni replaced Callum Tree in the back row.

A minute later, as a ruck formed, 'handbags were exchanged' on the ground by Ollie Evans and his opposite number, with both being sent to the sin-bin as the yellow card being shown.

On 67 minutes, Narberth went further ahead when the ball was knocked back from a lineout and fielded by Liam Hitchens, who burst strongly through the Llanharan defenders to feed Nick Gale, who sprinted clear for a try near the corner. Ianto Griffiths appeared to have judged his kick perfectly, only at the last second to see the ball curl round the wrong side of the post.

Narberth made further changes, with Steffan Jones replacing Justin Hughes, and near the end, Zac France Miller replaced Dan Smith and Rhys Lane came on for Liam Hitchens.

In the closing stages, Llanharan set up a series of attacks, but were repelled by a resolute defence, with the pack defending their territory and enabling the Otters to clear their lines.

For Narberth, young Ollie Evans had one of his best games, putting behind him the difficulties of the previous week. He scrummaged strongly and was really enjoying the exchanges in the loose, crossing the gain line several times. The front row had a solid performance, with their scrummaging causing difficulties for the opposition. As ever, the pack played a big part, with Alex Jenkins most effective in the lineout and some hard work at the rucks by the back row.

The threes were effective, with minimal errors, and showed some elusive running, with a strong defence when required.

Head coach Sean Gale commented that it had been a very good win, having been under the cosh for the last four or five games, due to a huge injury crisis. The players who have come in have been very good, however, with Justin Hughe most effective and Liam Hitchens playing well on the wing.

"We have attempted to obtain a very competitive squad and have done very well to finish sixth in the league and hopefully to win the Pembrokeshire Knock Out Cup this week," he said. "However, to go to Llanharan when the season should have finished a fortnight ago and to get the win was superb. Our defensive effort in the last 20 minutes was excellent and it was also pleasing to score three fabulous tries."

Narberth fielded: Nick Gale, Lawrence Headlam (Nico Setaro), Morgan Griffiths, Steve Martin, Liam Hitchins (Rhys Lane), Ianto Griffiths, Jonathon Rogers, Callum Tree (Nio Aioni), Stuart Worrall, Lewis Wood, Alex Jenkins, Adam Clarke, Justin Hughes, Justin Hughes (Steffan Jones), Dan Smith (Zac France Miller), Ollie Evans.
