TEN intrepid souls from the Off Roadents running group in Bude crawled through Smarties tubes, lay face down in the mud of a crocodile pit, swam through Peter's Pool and were sheep-dipped on June 15 — all in the name of charity and the spirit of adventure, reports Katie Davis.

These are all obstacles on the 17k endurance Commando Challenge, held at the Royal Marines Endurance training course on Woodbury Common.

All of the obstacles come with deep mud, really deep mud, very deep water, total darkness or deep mud. The challenge was to complete a 6.5km run out onto the course, 4km of obstacles and finally the 6.5km run back to the finish line.
