The mayor of Torpoint Town Council and county councillor Mike Pearn bowled the first wood of the 2015 lawn bowling season at Torpoint Bowling Club's official opening day on Saturday.
President of Torpoint bowling club Len Hawke welcomed the mayor and mayoress and thanked the 'Wednesday and Friday' member work squads who have maintained the green, the surrounds and the clubhouse. The mayor commented that 'taking over the lease of the green from the council had worked well for all concerned and that the facilities were in good hands'.
After the official opening members had a roll-up and the coach and secretary Chris Willing welcomed members of the public who had turned up as part of Cornwall's 'Get Active' programme offering them a taste of the game of bowls.
Torpoint Bowling Club offers anyone of any ability the opportunity to try the game at the club's Friday club nights. Just turn up by 5:30pm on any Friday evening during the season. You can contact the secretary on 01752812941 or the club's website, torpoint-bowling-club.org.
