ST Joseph’s took three netball teams to the national event, the ISA National Netball Tournament 2016 for the first time, which took place at Malvern St James on Saturday, March 5.

The three teams all started well during the first seven minutes in the each-way matches, with the U16 team scoring 11 goals in the first two matches.

The uplifting support and encouragement from their teammates proved to be very beneficial, resulting with the team winning three matches, as well as drawing and losing one, later earning a place to play in the cup knockout.

When faced against The Grange School in the cup knockout, the team fought with all their might, with the end result 11 all. The organisers of the event advised that the game would finish with a ‘golden goal’, but unfortunately the U16 team lost.

The students must be reminded that they narrowly lost to the winners, and that getting to the quarter finals of this national event is something to be very proud of.

The U14 Lightning team’s game went exceptionally well.?They scored more than 75 goals in their first eight matches and conceded 15. The U14 Thunder team also had a good start; the team spirit was strong throughout the game, and the high level of determination shone through every team player.

The game against Claire’s Court would determine who would win the event. Leading with 6-2 in front, the U14 Lightning team did not lose this position throughout, and with such an excellent game — showing determination and good team spirit —the team were announced the champions of the ISA U14 National Netball Champions 2016.

The school is delighted with the result, and would like to thank Vicky Innes for all of her tremendous efforts to coach the teams over the last term, and would like to thank Imogen Eddison for all her support at the event.
