Holsworthy and District Pool League 2018/19 end of season report

OLD Market Inn B were crowned Division One champions recently by five points from Magpie/RBL B.

Both sides won 13 and lost five of their 18 matches but Old Market’s losses were by tighter margins, meaning they finished on 64 points compared to RBL’s 59.

No player went through the season unbeaten in the top league although Tony Holgate, Andy Pollard and Steve Sweeney each only lost once.

At the bottom, just two points separated the bottom three but it was Eastcott Arms C who finished last and were relegated — that despite winning seven games compared to Rydon Inn C’s four and Union Inn’s six.

In the second-tier, RBL Magpie A romped to the league title by a massive 16 points from runners-up Orchard Mayhems.

They lost just two of their 18 fixtures with the top three players in the Most Wins column coming from them.

Orchard Mayhems edged out Junction Inn B by two points to end up second on 50. However, such was the closeness between the ten teams, only eight points separated Countryman B in fourth and Rydon Inn B who were last and go down.

Holsworthy Social C were the winners of Division Three in a thrilling battle with Village Inn and Thornbury Holiday Park B. There were just six points between the top half. Unfortunately for Bullers Arms, they managed just four wins and were last by 12 points.

The division’s best player was Richard Risdon with 17 wins from 18.

In Division Four, Golden Fleece B won the title by eight points from runners-up Chapmans Well Caravan Park, who were the same distance ahead of third-placed Eastcott Arms E.

Golden Inn B were last with just ten points.

In the race for the Most Wins trophy, Toby Durling (Golden Fleece B) and Danny Smith (Chapmans Well Car Park) both won 16 of their 18 games meaning a play-off was needed to decide who claimed the trophy with Durling winning 2-0.

In the cup competitions, Old Market Inn B ensured a double by beating Bradworthy Inn 3-1 in the Team Cup final to go alongside their Division One crown.

In the Consolation Cup decider held at Holsworthy Football Club, Division One outfit Union edged out second-tier Junction Inn A 3-2.

In the individual competitions, Tony Holgate thrashed Simon Davey 8-1 in the Open Singles final while in the League Singles decider, Gary Hodgson proved too strong for James Moore in a 3-0 success.
