MEMBERS of Launceston Road Runners took part in three local races on Sunday, March 24.
The Tavy13, The Granite Way and The Tamar Bridge 10K were the events on a sunny, dry day which meant perfect running conditions for all those taking part and spectating.
Tavy13 saw, probably the largest club turn out at this year’s race, 13.1 miles of the challenging and hilly Dartmoor course.
This, however, did not stop Emma Baker on being the third lady overall and showed great form for her upcoming London Marathon attempt.
Joining Emma was Louisa Shaw and Jenny Mills who together claimed first in the ladies team prize with Mills being the winner of her age category.
Not to be out done by the ladies, Darren Evans, Edward Horn, Mike Gilbert and Matthew Stringer managed third in the mens team prize.
A special mention to Mark Lancaster who beat his recent time in the Bideford Half Marathon, coming over the finish line in a very respectable time of one hour, 55 minutes and 19 seconds.
Also taking part in the Tavy13 were Steve Cox, Ben Jarram, John Barnes, Matt Haisman, Jackie Gay and John Mason.
Club spokesperson, Gill Aze-Thomas, said: “A big well done to all the members of the club that took part in the Tavy13 and thank you to Tavistock Athletics for organising such a great event.”
Okehampton hosted the Granite Way 10 miler and 20 miler races. The Granite Way race takes runners along the Granite Way cycle path through Devon with fantastic views of Dartmoor and the surrounding countryside.
Again, the club was represented well in both races.
Mark Knight, Richard Foster, Becki Sant and Kirsty Knight, all completed ten miles while Peter Mcaughey completed the 20-mile race.
Peter has a club place in the London Marathon and was using this as a valued training run, Peter is raising money for Future Pillars Zambia, this charity helps to feed and educate highly vulnerable children in Zambia and Peter has made many trips to Zambia to support the charity, including hosting their first ever sports day!
Ann Barriball, Claire Harwell, Nicola Emmett and Sally Smither-Harvey took part in the first Tamar Bridge 10K race organised by Britain’s Ocean City Race Series.
Starting at Kings Tamerton Community Centre and running over the Tamar Bridge into Cornwall and back, twice before ending the race at Kings Tamerton Community Centre.
Claire Harwell got a PB, crossing the line in 1:01:44.
Finally, Mary Roberts and Dawn Acaster ventured slightly further to Castle Drogo for the Deep River 10K, which is a challenging, hilly trail race. However both ladies crossed the finish line in 1:07:32.
Club members also take part every Saturday in the local parkruns at Tamar Trails, Tamar Lakes and Lanhydrock.
