THE Launceston Road Runners ladies team of Louisa Shaw, Jaine Hynes, Becki Sant and Jeanette Johnson took first place in the Vets (over 35) competition at the Tavistock relays on Saturday, July 21.
Launceston took a record number of runners over to the event which is organised by Tavistock Athletics Club as part of their carnival week celebrations.
Each of the four runners in a team ran a 1.1-mile loop, starting in Meadowlands Park, crossing the river the running back on the opposite side of the river before handing over the batten.
A total of six mens and four ladies teams took part with all abilities and levels of experience, some running in a club vest for the first time.
Club spokesperson, Sarah Swift, said: “As always the atmosphere was fantastic with great commentary. The warm weather bringing lots of people out to the course, cheering on the runners all around the route. Well done to everyone that took part!”
