Tenby United 22 pts. Ammanford 24

Still undermanned, but massively improved, GD Harries, FBM Holidays, Kiln Park, Molson Coors and Andrew Price sponsored Tenby United battled hard and managed two league points for their efforts last Saturday as they looked to give themselves and their loyal band of Heywood Lane supporters a win to mark the last home game of the season.

And it looked as though it was going to happen, but a last minute penalty goal from Ammanford number 10 Rhydian Morris, coupled with some shaky decisions in key moments throughout the game from the man in the middle, meant that the Seasiders had to settle for two bonus points and a two-point loss instead.

Ammanford were first to register points on the board, albeit controversially, when scrum-half John Evans crossed the line following a quickly taken penalty on the United five-metre line.

Some last-ditch Tenby defence seemed to be enough to prevent the try as the ball appeared to be knocked loose over the line, but the referee was unsighted and the score was allowwed to stand.

Morris added the simple conversion to give the visitors an early lead of seven points to nil.

Rhydian Morris extended the lead two minutes later with a well-struck penalty and the home side suddenly had a lot of work to do if they were to stay in the game.

Despite some good phases from the United over the next 10 minutes, the Ammanford lead was given another five points when second row Jake Baker charged down a clearance kick on the Tenby line and dropped on the ball to score the unconverted opportunist try.

The Seasiders rallied together as they knew that they needed to score quickly to stay in the game and this they did, with centre Jack Guerreiro crossing for his first try since last season's promotion play-off against Wattstown.

The home side piled the pressure on the visitors' line and the Portuguese flyer rounded off the impressive move with his touchdown in the corner.

The conversion went narrowly wide, but the Seasiders were soon crossing the line again two minutes later when nippy winger James Criddle caught the visiting defence napping as he counter-attacked down the touchline after a well-earned turnover from the United pack.

Criddle made it deep into the Ammanford half before linking with centre Jordan Asparassa, who outstretched the remaining defence on his way to the line. The try again went unconverted, but more Tenby points were soon on the way through powerful outside-half Toby Smith.

Smith's try came after some more good phases and pressure from the Tenby pack who showed superb patience and confidence as they kept the ball tight and made the hard yards through wave after wave of assaults around the fringes.

When the time was right, scrum-half Luke Conbeer got the ball away to Smith, who wasn't going to be stopped and gave his side the half-time lead through this fine self-converted try.

Tenby United led by 17 points to 15 at the break, despite having trailed 15-nil at the 20-minute mark.

Morris retook the lead for the visitors early in the second half through a short range penalty, but it wasn't long before hard-running second row Luke Dedman seemed to score an excellent try as he was almost held up on the line, but worked hard to ground the ball on the bottom of the post protector.

Referee Matthew J. Thomas didn't agree that this was a legal try and awarded a scrum-five instead, much to the amazement of the home supporters.

Fullback Damo Miller was dealt a similar blow shortly after when he also crossed for what seemed a try, but again the effort was disallowed.

With the Seasiders determined to keep the pressure on their visitors, they kept the ball alive and rewards for their impressive efforts were soon to follow when Toby Smith took a quick tap and gave the ball to Miller on the halfway line and the fullback cantered down the touchline, beating several Ammanford defenders on his way to the line for unconverted bonus point try.

The United brought on plenty of fresh legs with 20 minutes to go with a view to closing the game out, with Johnny Palmer, Andrew Cooke, Chris James and Jimmy Davies coming on for Rob Clark, Jason Ronowitz, Wyndham Williams and Mark Heywood, respectively.

The Seasiders managed to hold on to the lead and, despite the visitors closing the gap to within two points through Morris's trusty boot, it appared Tenby would run our deserved winners as the clock ticked into the red.

This was not to be, though, and Ammanford looked to Rhydian Morris once again to land a long range penalty deep in the 80th minute.

Morris landed the kick to end the game and Tenby United's hopes of the bonus point victory, as the visitors ran out winners by 24 points to 22 and the Seasiders had to settle for the try bonus and losing bonus points for a game they felt that they had done more than enough to win.

There are no games this weekend, but the United will end what has been a long and difficult season next Saturday, May 2, when they travel to Loughor to play the rearranged game from December.

All supporters are asked to travel up to Loughor to cheer the boys on in their efforts to finish up their first season in division one with a win.

If anyone is interested in going along to Loughor on a supporters bus to match the massive support that Ammanford brought with them to cheer their boys on in Tenby last week, please show your interest by contacting the clubhouse on 01834 843501 and asking for Dominique.
