Lack of wind causes issues at Upper Tamar Lake

THE front three boats (Nathan Pollard, Dave Perrett and Linda Spiller) gained an advantage by starting near the bank as Bob Sampson, Jane Anderson, Brian Pollard and Tash Routley and Liam Routley and Robin Spiller were soon becalmed.

Sampson soon went fourth and then the front five then rounded Dam Green buoy for their run up the lake with several members still only a few boat lengths from the start.

There were few changes at the front, but Robin Spiller soon passed Liam Routley and started to close on Brian Pollard and Tash Routley.

Boats became becalmed again at the ‘Zebra’ mark, but a series of gusts arrived, helping Perrett to bear down on Nathan Pollard for the lead when the gusts caused reverse conditions for both.

Results: 1 Nathan Pollard (Aero 7); 2 Jane Anderson (Laser Radial); 3 Dave Perrett (Solo); 4 Linda Spiller (Laser); 5 Bob Sampson (Aero 7); 6 Brian Pollard and Tash Routley (Bosun). Retired: Liam Routley (Laser) and Robin Spiller (Solo).

BRIAN Pollard and Tash Routley were away like a flash in their Bosun, but were overtaken around Dam Green by Nathan Pollard, plus Sampson and Anderson soon after.

A huge wind shift from south east to north north east during the race meant the simple run from Dam Green turned into a series of tacks for all.

Vicki Duncalf joined the second race in her Topper and once the handicaps were applied, she had done enough to be the runner-up.
