A TRIO of KHS girls thundered to triumph when they took a recent County Athletic Championships by storm.

After being crowned County Champions at the event, Megan James (Discuss), Lauren Stockley (1500m) and Issy Parry-Jones (800m) were selected to represent South East Wales at the Welsh Athletic Championships held at Leckwith Stadium in Cardiff.

Unfortunately, a week before the championships, Meg broke her shoulder and was unable to compete.

At the Welsh Championships, Lauren Stockley (Year Ten) was entered for the 1500m middle girls race.

Lauren, who was unable to train as much as she wanted due to severe shin splints most of the season, performed excellently to bag a third place.

A week before the schools' Championships, Issy Parry-Jones competed in the 800m final of the Welsh Club Championships where she came first - taking the record which had stood since 1992.

A week later saw Issy in the final of the 800m at Leckwith Stadium where she completed the double and became 800m Welsh Schools Champion.

Not only did Issy win, but in the process smashed the Championship record which has stood for 40 years.

Head of girls PE at KHS, Bev Edwards explained, "There is a wealth of girl's athletic talent at KHS, with Issy Parry-Jones a star of the future and definitely one to watch."
