South West League Western Division outfit Callington Town got their pre-season friendly games up and running on Wednesday with a visit to Devon League club Tavistock.

The next match is on Sunday, July 26, when Devon League champions Tedburn St Mary (Formerly Exeter & Tedburn Rangers) are the visitors.

This is followed a week later by the visit of new Devon League club Buckland Athletic who have signed on a number of quality players from Torquay United so should be an interesting match up.

The next match is on Sunday, August 16, with the visit of Premier Division club Torquay United before rounding off their pre-season at Marine Academy Plymouth who won the Western Division last season – a team they drew with twice last season.

Callington and Dobwalls will have to wait a little longer for the South West League fixtures.

There was a shock for Plymouth Argyle fans as they start the new season as they did the last with a long journey to Lewes when the season opens on Sunday, August 16. The following week they make the journey to Gloucestershire to play newly-promoted Forest Green Rovers.

Argyle were then surprised to see that the league had seen fit to see the club facing six of their 11 home games 14 miles from Plymouth at Tavistock Community College on the 3G pitch.

Secretary Andrew Bellamy was a little confused at this decision saying: 'I didn't even provide them (the league) with the details of Tavistock's ground.'

Bellamy emailed the league asking the question and received a reply saying it was an administration error and that the details will be changed.

With the World Cup exploits by England still fresh in the mind, Argyle fans will be relieved that they will be watching the club playing in Plymouth.

Five of their home games will be played at Elburton Villa FC between September 27 and November 15.

Argyle's fixtures in the Premier League Southern Division are: August 16 at Lewes, August 23 at Forest Green Rovers, September 6 home to Charlton Athletic at Elburton Villa FC, September 13 home to Brighton Elburton Villa FC, September 20 at Queen's Park Rangers, September 27 at home to Coventry United at Elburton Villa FC, October 4 home to Portsmouth at Elburton Villa FC, October 18 at C&K Basildon, October 25 home to Cardiff City at Elburton Villa FC, November 1 home to West Ham United at Elburton Villa FC, November 8 at Cardiff City, November 15 home to Lewes at Elburton Villa FC, November 22 at Portsmouth, December 6 home to Queens Park Rangers Elburton Villa FC, December 13 at Brighton, December 20 at West Ham United, January 3 at Coventry United, January 17 home to Forest Green Rovers at Elburton Villa FC, January 24 home to C&K Basildon at Elburton Villa FC, January 31 home to Tottenham Hotspur at Elburton Villa FC, February 14 at Charlton Athletic, February 21 at Tottenham Hotspur.

Argyle have arranged three pre-season fixtures – all away.
