BUDE’S two senior ladies teams kept up their fine starts to the season on Saturday with both securing emphatic victories.
The first team, now down in Trelawney Division Two of the West Hockey League following the league reshuffle over the summer, put 10 past Caradon Fourths without reply.
Bude started strongly, heading into half-time with a commanding 6–0 lead. The team moved the ball brilliantly, created plenty of chances and kept the pressure firmly on the visitors who battled throughout.
The second half continued in the same fashion, with the Seasiders maintaining their energy by playing some excellent hockey and adding another four goals to complete a dominant performance.
The goals were shared across the team, with Tilly Collins opening the scoring, Chloe Hall grabbing a second successive hat-trick, Charlotte Prime and Charlotte Kingdon both scoring twice, and Claire Pipe and Mia Flynn each adding a goal. A well-worked short corner routine also helped Bude, who welcome Newquay Thirds on Saturday (1.30pm) make the most of their attacking opportunities.
The Development team visited their St Austell counterparts in Trelawney Division Three at Truro’s Penair School looking to build on their 8-0 victory over Camborne School of Mines Seconds.
Bude were on the front foot early on and created chances with Naomi Hatcher and Molly Roper dominating the midfield and making driving runs through to the forward pairing of Niamh and Bella Turner who both saw shots well saved.
The Saints were struggling to get the ball out of their half with Bude’s players picking up the 50/50 balls all over the pitch. Maeva Motsch and Ellie Middleton were a menace down the wings, dribbling into the D where they were awarded short corners. However, again it was the home keeper who made save after save to keep Saints in the game.
Bude’s defence stood firm when Saints did get the ball up to their forwards with player-of-the-match Eva Clarke and Indie Clarke in the right place to make the tackles and steer the ball away.
The visitors eventually took the lead as Miranda Roper was able to distribute the ball through to Elsa Edwards and up through midfield which allowed Tilly Francis to race away before passing to Niamh Turner who slotted home from close-range.
The second half began with Bude keen to increase their slender advantage; but the Saints held firm with tackles from defenders and great keeping denying the visitors.
Bude shuffled the pack to find a way to score, but it was St Austell though who equalised when Bude were too high up the pitch and a ball fired up to their forwards left Bude’s keeper stranded as their forward made no mistake.
It was the kick Bude needed as they mounted attack after attack. Eventually they got the breakthrough as Francis, Motsch and Niamh Turner linked well before cruising into the D before squaring the ball to Molly Roper who made no mistake in front of goal.
It wasn't long before Bella Turner got on the scoresheet for the match-sealing third. Again it was the passing and moving from the Bude side that left the Saints on the back foot with Niamh Turner passing to her sister to slot past the oncoming keeper.
An early start awaits on Saturday morning as they head to Falmouth Fourths for a 10.15am pushback.
