England Golf Junior Club Championship — August 10 and 11

EARLIER in the year Launceston’s Junior team of Chris Turner, Josh Murray-Dustan and Junior Captain James Barton won the qualifying event to become Cornwall’s representatives in this event played at Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire this year.

33 counties sent teams to the finals and the Launceston trio played with Juniors from Doncaster in Yorkshire and Styal in Cheshire.

On the Monday all three lads had quite reasonable scores going but over the last few holes let things slip a little and ended the day about half way down the field.

On the Tuesday Chris and Josh again didn’t quite get the scores they would have wanted but James scored a gross score of level par 69 — an excellent round of golf. The team from Doncaster were the overall winners of the event.

Despite not improving their overall team position from the first round the Launceston team all enjoyed the experience and were a credit to themselves, the Club and the County.

Club secretary Alan Creber said: “A big thank you to everyone who supported the team, particularly John Tozer whose coaching session with James after Monday’s round clearly paid off and to Junior organizer Beth Ratcliffe for her tireless work not only this week but throughout the year.

“Thanks too for all the support received from other members of the Club.”
